The that I was more interested in biology

The first years of my
undergraduate career were a mess – I had no idea what to do in life, and the
burden of my family’s financial crisis back home didn’t help. As the eldest
daughter and without enough financial aid from the university, I withdrew from
my studies to support the family. Despite the situation, I
took this time to assess what I wanted to do in my life, and through self-help
books and experimenting, I discovered that I was more interested in biology
than programming.

Due to my interest in
healthcare I elected Biomedical Engineering as my major in college and
maintained an aggregate of 67%, along with establishing collaborations with
faculty and peers to hone my disposition for reasoning, logic, and scientific
curiosity which lead me down a path in pursuit of medical field. With additional
training, I see myself getting a Ph.D. and working with a passionate and
innovative R&D team that works towards catering to the requirements and
tackling the challenges of the brave new world.

Over time, when
electronics greeted medicine, the healthcare industry was accelerated to
perform tremendous feats. Inventions such as bionic arms, prosthetic eye, CT,
and others have had me stupefied. Ever since I had discovered my passion in
biomedical engineering, I wanted to extend my skills into helping physically
challenged or differently abled people by creating assist devices for them. My
final year project was also based on developing such an assist device which is
color recognition for color blind people.

In an effort to work
towards my goal I did my internship at CARE Hospitals where i learn about
various equipments used in hospitals which triggered my curiosity to another
level. I grabbed every learning opportunity I was presented with and I believe
I picked up some valuable skills and characteristics like overhauling,
curiosity, creativity, persistence. I have functioned in various leadership
positions like chief coordinator for Annual college fest, organizer for
Promethean a National level technical symposium, an executive member of club
inquisitive- an innovative student club. Working in these roles made me
appreciate the value of teamwork, planning, effective decision making, and
communication.

With the knowledge
obtained through my UG studies I feel that I have taken the first few steps of
a thousand mile journey. I wish to pursue the graduate degree to satisfy my
intellectual curiosity and laying the groundwork for my career. I am
enthusiastic to learn advanced skills, concepts and gain in-depth knowledge of
the field. I firmly believe that Graduate study will provide me with the
opportunity to explore the depths and marvels of engineering. As the University
of Ottawa, has always been the cradle of innovation and is doing the phenomenal
quality of research towards the Biomedical Engineering; I strongly believe that
it serves my best interest to pursue the MS in Biomedical Engineering program
at the University.

I feel that I have a
firm grasp on the basic concepts of Biomedical Engineering. I am also confident
that the internship, projects, and other learning experiences have seasoned me
with a comprehensive sense of the scientific research and a desire to undertake
it. And I find myself fully prepared to take on exciting challenges ahead. I
hope the admission committee favorably receives my application.
